Hand Stripping - Professional Wire Coat Maintenance

Hand stripping is a specialized grooming technique that involves manually removing dead and loose hairs from wire-coated breeds by plucking them from the root. This traditional method maintains the coat's natural texture, colour, and weather-resistant properties that clipping would compromise.

Why Hand Stripping?

  • Preserves the coat's natural wire texture and protective qualities
  • Maintains vibrant coat colours and prevents fading
  • Promotes healthy new hair growth
  • Reduces excessive shedding in the home
  • Essential for show dogs to meet breed standards

Suitable Breeds:

Wire-haired terriers (Border, Fox, Airedale, Wire Fox, Lakeland, Welsh), Schnauzers, Wirehaired Dachshunds, German Wirehaired Pointers, Spinone Italiano, Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, and other wire-coated breeds.

The Process:

Our experienced groomers use specialized stripping knives and finger techniques to remove dead coat in sections, working with your dog's natural coat cycle. The process is painless when done correctly and actually feels good to most dogs.

Our Complete Hand Stripping Service Includes:

Pre-Grooming Assessment | Bath with Breed-Specific Shampoo | Thorough Blow Dry | Professional Hand Stripping | Sanitary Area Clean | Paw Tidy & Nail Cutting | Final Styling & Finish

Timing & Maintenance:

Hand stripping is typically performed every 8-12 weeks depending on your dog's coat growth. We'll assess your dog's coat condition and recommend the optimal schedule for maintaining their coat health.

Please note: Ear plucking, anal gland expression, and teeth cleaning are available as additional services and are not included in this package.
